- Aahe nila saila --- An Oriya abhinaya
- Shreeta Kamala Kucha Mandal --- Sanskrit abhinaya
This abhinaya is an excerpt from the great poet Jayadeva's epic creation "Geeta Govinda".
Here the verse praises Lord Vishnu's different incarnations and celebrates the triumph of dharma or righteousness over adharma or evil.
The poet sings "O Hari! you rest on the bosom of Goddess Lakshmi, wearing bright earrings and garlands of flowers. The sun's dazzling rays encircle you .You are the destroyer of all the evil powers and you reside in the minds of holy men as a swan swims in a lake".
You've defeated the venomous snake Kaliya as Krishna and have thus delighted your Yadava kinsmen as the sunlight incites lotus buds to bloom. As Rama you won king Janaka's daughter Sita as your spouse. You've conquered the demon Dusana and killed the ten-headed Ravana.
The poet thus joyously sings this hymn of praise "O Hari! I offer my salutations."

This incept is from Jayadev's Geet Govinda. The poet complies these poems to inspire his wife Padmavati to dance. These poems are based on the eternal love and romance of Lord Krishna with Chandrabali on the banks of Yamuna. Radha, who waits for Krishna, is disappointed and imagines that Krishna must be intimately involved with Chandrabali. Radha's plight increases as she imagines Krishna applying sandalwood paste to Chandrabali's forehead, decorating her long black hair with yellow flowers which looks like lightning in a dark cloudy sky. At last Jayadev says, whoever these Kavya or poems will derive peace in their life.

Nritta or pure dance forms an important part of Odissi repertoire.
Tala madhurya is a composition of pure dance. This exquisitely
choreographed dance piece is composed of sculpturesque poses,
intricate footwork and composite body movements. It is devoid of
expressions. Only a rhythmic tala pattern is followed, supported by a
melody or raga.
But the focal point of this pure and abstract dance without thematic content is the "Purush Ang", that imbibes male stylization in to Odissi form .It deviates from the dominance of the feminine form and gives prominence to the male dancers and the masculine form in Odissi.

This rhythm-based item draws upon the various percussion instruments
found in traditional village life in Orissa. The rhythms created from
these instruments such as the Khol, Jhanja, Ghanta have been
translatet into Odissi classical Mardala. Sanjog entwines rhythm with
lyrical dance patterns enhancing the masculine grace and dexterity of
the "Purush Ang" or male form.

Here through the vocabulary of classical Odissi, the dancers
express the truth of life by worshipping the goddess "Devi Mahakali".
She is the dark and furious incarnation of Goddess Durga. She is
adorned with garlands of human skulls and smeared with ashes from the
cremation ground. She holds the sword, the chakra, the gada, trishul,
bow and arrow, etc. Her body is of the color of blue lotus and She is
Mahakali, the furious goddess. She is Shivaa, the divine consort of
Shiva and Narayani, the power of Vishnu. She is Kalaratri, the
darkest night. She is the repository of three "gunas" (qualities)
pervade with her energy: Satwa, Raja and Tamas. She creates, nurtures
and finally destroys. She is the origin and the ultimatum of life.

This item is a masterpiece of group choreography depicting the ten
incarnations of Lord Vishnu: When Sankhasura stole the Veda from Lord
Brahma Vishnu assumed the form of fish. During the churning of the
ocean by the Devatas and the Ashuras for obtaining nectar Vishnu
assumed form of a giant tortoise. When Asuras stole Prithvi Vishnu
assumed the form of a wild boar. He reappeared as Narasingha to kill
the King Hiranyakashipu. When King Bali became too arrogant Visnu
appeared as a dwarf to smash away his pride. When Ravana created havoc
Vishnu killed him in Rama avatar. During a crisis period he became
Haladhar to till the soil. As Gautama he was disturbed by the
suffering of human beings and he became Lord Buddha to preach
nonviolence and peace. Finally he assumed the form of Kalki to
destroy the evil in the world.
